Pandeshwar level crossing set for double boom barrier to support four-lane traffic
A railway-gate upgrade is planned as an interim mobility improvement while a proposed overbridge remains pending.

The Pandeshwar level crossing is set to receive a double boom-barrier system designed to support four-lane vehicular movement along Mangaladevi Road. Southern Railway’s Palakkad Division has invited tenders for the barrier, civil and signalling package.
The work is estimated at about ₹2 crore and is intended to reduce delays at a busy urban crossing while the longer-term railway overbridge proposal remains pending. The intervention is relatively small compared with a grade-separated structure, but it could improve gate operations, queue management and traffic throughput at a recurring bottleneck.
The project is a useful reminder that urban mobility improvements often depend on a mix of major capital works and smaller operational upgrades that can be delivered faster.
