Sulthan Bathery–Tannirbhavi bridge advances toward direct cross-river connectivity
The 285-metre bridge is designed to shorten travel between Bengre–Tannirbhavi and central Mangaluru while preserving navigation clearance.
Construction of the Sulthan Bathery–Tannirbhavi bridge has been moving through its major structural stages, with the project designed to create a direct vehicular connection across the Gurupura river. The scheme is being executed under the Mangaluru Smart City programme at an announced cost of around ₹64 crore.
The bridge is about 285 metres long and includes a 100-metre navigation span with approximately 10 metres of vertical clearance, allowing boat movement beneath the structure. Once operational, the connection is expected to reduce the long road diversion currently required when ferry services are unavailable.
Beyond transport time savings, the project could influence tourism access, land values and development patterns around Tannirbhavi and Bengre, making it one of the city’s most consequential local connectivity projects.
