Pumpwell and Padil flood-mitigation works target recurring monsoon disruption
Road-level changes and pumping measures are being used to address chronic waterlogging at two major traffic points.
Mangaluru has begun targeted works at two of its most persistent monsoon trouble spots: Pumpwell Junction and the Padil Railway Underpass. Both locations have repeatedly experienced waterlogging that disrupts traffic during heavy rain.
At Pumpwell, work has been reported on raising the service-road level beneath the flyover. At Padil, a pumping system has been planned to help clear water accumulating in the underpass. These measures are part of a broader effort to reduce artificial flooding through drainage maintenance and location-specific engineering responses.
For a high-rainfall coastal city, these projects highlight the importance of designing roads, underpasses and drainage as one integrated system rather than treating stormwater as a secondary issue.
